The answer is no. Chinese trademark law article 18 provides "Foreign individuals or foreign enterprises that apply for trademark registration or handle other trademark-related matters in China shall entrust a legally established trademark agency to handle such matters."
This also indicates that working directly with a local trademark agencey like Mr. Ma will save your cost by avoiding intermediaries.

7 months in a smooth case. Trademark office will review the trademark within 4 months after filing and in a smooth case, there will be an additional pulicaiton period for 3 months, amonting to 7 months in total.

Not necessary. You can file trademark in standard word format or with logo at your option.

TIPS FOR CHINESE TRADEMARK APPLICATION
Requirements for applying a Chinese trademark are not rigid or complicated - your passport or certificate of incorporation of your company (scanned version) will satisfy the requirements of application. Chinese trademark law requires foreigner to work with an agent to apply his trademark, so you need to find a proper agent in China. Any service provider that is not a Chinese mainland company is not a qualified service provider, you will have to work with a local service provider finally, thus a direct connection with local agent saves your cost. I would suggest you to check the quality (as in China trademark office database) of the agent before you work with the agent.
It will take around 7 months to apply the trademark in a smooth case. As you may have done in your home country, you may want a search before applying the trademark, and I provide free search report for you. If the search shows your trademark is registered in China by a third party or similar registration exists, ask for a solution and make sure you understand the solution. It may cost you extra money and time if you miss this step. Keep in mind 20 million trademarks have been registered in China, so it is not a surprise if your trademark is registered. It is also recommended to keep in mind obviousness problem or bad social influence issues may cause rejection of your application.
